Jada’s Story

Site created on March 24, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Our dear friends Mike and Carla Brown's 9 year old daughter Jada has been sick on and off for the past year. This past Friday the doctors at Essentia Health in Detroit Lakes gave Mike and Carla the news that no parent should ever receive. Jada has been diagnosed with Polycythemia Vera, which is a slow-growing blood cancer in which the bone marrow makes too many red blood cells which causes your blood to get too thick. This disease gets worse very slowly, usually over many years. Jada will need several different types of treatments to lower her number of blood cells.
Please pray for Jada and her family. We are hoping that anyone who can will donate to help them overcome the unexpected financial situation they now face. We will keep you updated as her journey continues. We will be setting up a Go Fund Me account for Jada so you can donate.

Journal entry by Leslie Ann

Some of Jada's test results came back today. The good news is she does not have Polycythemia Vera. The bad news is she has been diagnosed with von Willebrand Disease which sometimes shows a positive result for Polycythemia Vera.
Von Willebrand Disease is a bleeding disorder that affects your blood's ability to clot. If your blood doesn't clot you can have heavy, hard-to-stop bleeding after an injury. Even though von Willebrand Disease is a lifelong condition with no cure, treatment can help prevent or stop bleeding episodes.
Jada will need several infusions and be prescribed a nose spray to stop the bleeding and bruises. Her insurance does not cover the total cost of the infusions and nose spray.
Jada will continue to have Mayo in Rochester as her primary care facility as the hospitals locally do not provide care for von Willebrand Disease.
Please continue to pray for Jada and her family. We will keep updating as we know more information.
