Newest Update

Journal entry by Kelly Jo Harrod

Once again, I have to apologize for the delay in an update. We have been so busy these past two and a half weeks! After we finished moving some of Mom and Dad's stuff to their new home, the remaining stuff was given to family members, stored or donated. Laurie and I worked every single day to get their previous apartment cleared out by April 1.  Tony helped us, too, whenever we needed him.  Last weekend, Ryan, Brett and Tony came to do the heavy lifting.  Meghann and Brooklyn came to help Laurie and I with the not-so-heavy stuff.  Although Mom wanted to help, she and Dad were quarantined for two weeks. Finally, on Wednesday, the quarantine was lifted and they were able to leave their place and start having their meals in the dining room. They were allowed to go outside, but couldn't leave the grounds. And then yesterday, the Central Dist. Health Dept. released new guidelines that allow the residents out into the community. Mom called me this afternoon with the news that she has been released from jail! She's thrilled! Dad is more comfortable staying in their apartment with Jonny.  Laurie and I visit them as often as we can, and hope that the new guidelines will allow for us to stay much longer than the 45 minutes once a day they give us.  Seems like we barely get sat down and it's time to leave.

We've seen good improvement in Dad these past two weeks. His pressure sores are healing really well and his doctor is very pleased. He is eating more and his pain is so much better. Laurie shaved his head and face, and got him all slicked up. He is more alert and present, and much more communicative. He pretty much seems like his old self. Like Laurie said, he seemed so lost before the move and we didn't think he'd ever be the same. We feel so much better with how far he has come. Mom says that he is doing well with his physical and occupational therapy. He has developed pain in his left foot, and they are having a hard time figuring out what the problem is. They took ex-rays, which turned out normal. Overall, Dad is doing very well and we are so thankful.

Thank you to everyone for your prayers.

Love,

Kelly
