Ivar’s Story

Site created on October 16, 2018

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” ~Mahatma Gandhi

In late August 2018, Ivar travelled to Whistler with his family to celebrate his grandmother’s 90th birthday. During this time, he had a biking accident and suffered a severe spinal cord injury. Ivar had an immediate and critical surgery to repair his spinal cord damage. He was then in ICU for 2 weeks. The doctor’s diagnosis is a high level C4 incomplete spinal cord injury which resulted in paralysis from chest down.

For those of us who know Ivar, we know so well of his quiet strength, his big heart, his positive spirit, and his service to others, always smiling, laughing, and encouraging. He took this debilitating injury with calmness, strength and courage. He embraced this life-changing event as the greatest challenge of his life. Each day he works with determination to recover, and believing that surely but slowly, things will improve.

The outpour of thoughts, prayers, and love for him from all of his friends and family have been overwhelmingly felt. As his good friend Patrick said… “ if the recovery depends on how much prayer, thoughts and love are going your way, soon enough, you will be flying, not only walking.”

On this page, we'll give updates on Ivar's progress. Also, we wanted to provide a central hub for friends and family to share posts, good wishes, and any good research articles on spine injuries.  All are welcome. Thank you.
