Irene’s Story

Site created on August 11, 2018

Irene was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March 2017. She immediately had surgery to remove the tumor. While most of the tumor was removed, she started chemotherapy. Irene did very well with the chemo, and was given a clean bill of health in November 2017.

In February 2018, during a routine CAT scan, the doctors discovered a cancerous spot on her liver. She started a new regime of chemo, which was much much aggressive and difficult to deal with. Irene retired from teaching  in the spring, and is still continuing her chemo treatment.

Please pray for Irene's physical and emotional health.  Given the timing of the cancer, Irene hasn't had much time or energy to process her recent divorce. This greatly affects her emotional well being.

Thank you for your prayers, thoughts, and visits. Everything is greatly appreciated by the family.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Alison Ainsworth

It's been a month since the last update - sorry! The past few weeks have been pretty up and down. Mom had two weeks off of chemo. She skipped the first week because she wasn't feeling up to it. She had spent the previous day in the hospital getting hydrated via IV. The next week was her scheduled week off. Because she had a long break from chemo, she was feeling great and had lots of energy! She was out in the yard and even got to go to church!

Mom had her last chemo on Wednesday, Sept 5th. The doctor lowered one of the doses because the peripheral neuropathy has worsened in her feet and spread to her fingertips. Since her chemo, she's been very tired and spends most of her days in bed. Her days in bed seem to increase, which is very disheartening.

Mom has a CT scan scheduled for next week. Pray that it's a good outcome! She also has another chemo infusion scheduled for Wed, 12th.

Emma and Eloise have been over weekly, which greatly lifts my mom's spirits. Please feel free to come by and visit her! It's really helpful and appreciated.
