Journal entry by Lucinda Cole

Hello all. Everything with Mom is stable although the landscape here keeps changing. Illinois is more or less under temporary lockdown. We bought Mom what we hope is a two-week supply of groceries, just in case one of us should get sick. She's talking with a potential housekeeper today. It's hard to decide what's worse for her: being alone or potentially being exposed to COVID-19. I'll see her this afternoon.

The nurse who distributes and monitors the results of her chemo medicine called this morning. Mom has an appointment for blood work on April 3 "barring unforeseen circumstances related to the coronoavirus." I tried to get some sense of a backup plan should the Cancer Center shut down, but the nurse said they hadn't talked about this possibility.

We feel lucky that Mom tolerates the chemo. I've read that a fractured back takes about three months to heal. At this point, she's a little more than eight weeks in, so maybe we'll start seeing some progress soon.

Stay safe out there.
