Hope Marie’s Story

Site created on June 18, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Summertime is here and as always it gets a little crazier (when we go from a family of three to a family of five) and a lot more fun (when we go from a family of three to a family of five) and a lot more laughs, and laundry and sometimes challenges like every family goes thru.

This summer is no different but this summer feels heavier, and it is.  Our sweet Hope will be undergoing a cranial vault remodeling surgery on June 19th.  She was born with Metopic Craniosynostosis (Trigonocephaly) (https://craniofacial.vcu.edu/conditions/craniosynostosis.html)  Her older brother Brayden was born with this same condition and underwent the surgery when he was four months old.  We are so grateful for the surgical team at VCU Children's Hospital and we feel confident in their recommendations and care for Hope.

Our friends, family and our church community have been an incredible support as we've walked thru all the steps to prepare for surgery and we are eternally grateful for their support.  We will be taking time to heal, rest and work on recovery for several weeks post surgery.  If we're slow to answer messages or return your calls you know why.  Thank  you for your prayers for our girl, the surgical team and for our family in this season.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Rachel Pierce

This morning we had another follow up with Hope’s surgical team. The redness has lessened but hasn’t disappeared ... “we’re not sure it’s an infection, let’s keep monitoring her.” Not the news we’d hoped for but we’re trusting that the antibiotics will continue to bring healing and the redness will disappear.

We’ll send in a photo in a week and return early August for another follow up.

Hope is continuing to show us her beautiful and strong personality!  Tonight our dear friend Pam brought over some dinner to share and Hope knawed on an ear of corn to help soothe her teething gums and feed herself (cause she’s a big girl)

I’m so thankful for our village and the way they are taking care of the Three Amigos (Hope, Brayden and Me) while Daddy and Bryson are serving on mission in Puerto Rico this week!

We’ll be heading to Florida next week to celebrate MeeMaws 90th Birthday 🎂 and get the boys back to the sunshine life.  Thank you for all your prayers for us as we continue the healing!

Grace and Peace,
The Fierce Pierce Five
