Howardene ’s Story

Site created on March 25, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We feel so loved by all of our friends and family. Denie was diagnosed with stage 4 leiomyosarcoma in early March.  She has been home with her husband, Austin, and daughter, Irene for the last couple of weeks. We hope to keep you, our friends and family, updated through this site.

We know that so many of you have reached out to share support, to offer prayers and thoughts, or to offer to help in any way possible. The blessings of our community's love is upon us and we feel it every day. Though we are grateful for those who have offered, at this time we do not need meals or food dropped off at the house. Mom is very particular about what she can eat because of the side effects of the cancer and the pain medication and Austin/Dad takes great joy in the activity of feeding us ladies. Additionally, in this COVID-19 hijacked world, we are asking to have visits limited and short in duration. The best way to share love with the family and Denie is to exercise excellent hand-washing hygiene and refrain from embracing any of us -- especially Denie -- and maintain your social distance.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Irene Maslanik

Unfortunately, the past few day's have seen a sharp decline in health for Denie. She is resting comfortably and thankfully doesn't appear to be in much pain, however she is very weak and not very present most of the time. There have been some wonderful visits today including with her sisters and mother. At this time all we need is love and peaceful thoughts from everyone.
