Henry’s Story

Site created on February 8, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place and to be a cathartic blog of our days. For those who are new here, in January 2018, doctors found a glioblastoma multiforme stage 4 tumor in the front right lobe of Henry's brain. He had surgery the next day and now we are on the long road to wherever this new life takes us. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement for Henry's battle. Thank you for visiting.
UPDATE: 28-1/2 months of no recurrence and minimal detriments changed when the June 15th MRI showed a new tumor. Surgery is July 2nd.

Journal entry by Anne Drolet

A year has passed and much has changed. What hasn't changed is how much I miss Henry's presence.

He donated his body to the University of Minnesota Medical School, and true to his spirit he became part of a research project helping to teach others about the relationship between neurology and muscles - a study searching for answers for MS, ALS, Parkinson's and similar diseases.

For this anniversary I joined family members gathered at his sister's Wyoming home near where he grew up. Today I gave memory bears I made from Henry's shirts to the grandchildren before his family and I took his ashes to a favorite place in the mountains. Last year we were going to come to Wyoming for our 8th wedding anniversary later in July,  and I was glad Henry would be able to see the mountains one more time. That didn't happen but today I brought him home.

I don't know what will happen after today. Some have said there will be closure but I don't think there will ever truly be "closure." At the very least I cannot conceive of this singular gathering healing what still feels so raw. But there will likely be some change, if only the change from having the constant marking of the days a year before.

I probably will close this site in the next few  months,  but I want to find a way to use our collected conversation we had through Henry's journey. I hold all of your caring words and support close as I know Henry did and in his way still does I'm sure. Before I close this site,  though, I hope to share whatever I have decided to do. In the meantime, please tell people you love them and know it is the stories shared that give life a purpose.
