Martin’s situation is being treated as a trafficking case and is currently with the High Risk Trafficking Victims unit in Dallas.
Martin was born a girl named Sydney but prefers to go by male pronouns.
Martin left the house willingly, and clearly planned to leave. He took his favorite coat and hat, a few changes of clothes, a few hundred dollars in cash, birth certificate and social security card, his computer, phone, drawing tablet… and his favorite stuffed animal.
We know he left on purpose after days or possibly weeks of planning…but our fear (which is shared by the police) is that he isn’t safe…that he met someone online who convinced him to leave but he didn’t get what he expected and instead has been trafficked. I’m referring to him as “he” because it is the pronouns he prefers, but keep in mind that this is a biologically a girl who just turned 17 last week.
