Helen’s Story

Site created on May 23, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.  Helen was diagnosed with dementia which led to Alzheimer's Disease several years ago.  It has been very hard watching our vivacious mom/wife/sister slowly lose herself.  Our Dad is a saint and so good with her, but the care was taking a toll on both of them and we came to realize she needed full time assistance.  She is living at Brookdale Memory Care in Edina, Minnesota.  She would love cards and letters.  Her address is Brookdale Memory Care Facility  3300 Edinborough Way #322,  Edina, MN  5535

Journal entry by Sherry Simmons

Well... it has been almost one week. I spoke to Chanel today (one of Mom's caregivers), she said Mom is still afraid and often asks to go home.  Wonders where Dad and her family are, worries about us quite a bit.  Chanel say's this is common. They tell her we are safe and she lives in this wonderful place where her every need is taken care of. Thank goodness for the incredible caregivers, especially Janee' and Chanel. Right across the hall is another patient, Audrey, who has become Mom's constant companion.  Mom has become very attached to Audrey and they like to do everything together from morning till night.  When she is with Audrey she is less anxious.  Maybe our Audrey (Mom's sister) and Jesus are looking down from heaven, giving Mom exactly what she needs to be comfortable in her new surroundings. They are still recommending we don't come visit for at least another week.  When she is able to have visitors, (she would love visitors!) we would like to spread them out rather than everyone come in the same week, which would overwhelm her.  If you would like to visit please give my Dad a call or let us know on the Caringbridge journal.  She is at Brookdale Memory Care, 3rd floor #322.  Ring the doorbell and they will let you in.  Vern's number is 952-884-3148.
Thank you for your support as we are adjusting to the new norm in our lives.
PS- My dad would love to see friends and family for dinner, show, coffee or anything :)
