Helen’s Story

Site created on August 31, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.  Helen & Amy appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

I have had chronic kidney disease for years and it finally progressed to the point that I need a new kidney or would have to be on dialysis for the rest of my life.

My wonderful daughter Amy wants to give me one of her kidneys. She happens to be a perfect match. I am truly blessed.

We are working with the Transplant Institute at Medical City Dallas Hospital.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Helen Berliner

So sorry I have not updated in a while. I am progressing well with the kidney transplant, I am healing and feeling good. Amy is also doing very well since the surgery.

As as far as my back issue, I had an epidural steroid spinal injection towards the end of November, it took almost a week but I finally got relief from the severe pain. At that time we realized my leg muscles had atrophied and I could barely walk. I started physical therapy the end of November. I am still going to PT, I have graduated from the walker to a cane and I get stronger each day. It has been quite a challenge but I can see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Thank you you all for your continued prayers, good thoughts and love. I am definitely feeling the good vibes!!  Hopefully my next update will be to tell you I am fully healed and have given up the cane. I thank the Good Lord for guiding me through this challenge and I know I will continue to improve.
Shalom,
helen
