Journal entry by Heaven Fowler

Hello my name is Heaven Fowler. I am 20 years old. On May 21st, 2019 I was in an auto mobile accident. Someone decided to jerk the steering wheel out of my hands causing me to loose control of the vehicle. When I lost control the Tahoe spun around and my driver window was down. I had on no seat belt. Before the truck began to flip I was thrown out of the driver window, slinging me into the air. When I came down on the concrete I came down face first. I tried to brace my fall and when I did I felt my spinal cord collide together so I instantly knew my back was broken, little did I know the full extent. The ambulance arrived and got me stable and I was then airlifted to the University of Alabama in Birmingham which is one of the bed hospitals in the country. On May 22nd is when I went for my first surgery and found out I had broken 7 of my ribs and broke T9, 10, 11, and 12. I was completely severed at T 11 which left me paralyzed from my waist down.Dr. Pittman is the surgeon that operated on me and was able to get me together enough to see if it would work. It did! As the days went by and I started to heal I also started physical therapy with Spain rehab. While being there I made so much recovery I was so close to being ready to go home. While at physical therapy one day I was transfusing my transfer board with help, and I heard a pop in my back. I instantly started hurting. I was taken back to my room and the next day I was in X-ray. The hardware in my back had shifted. I had to go for another surgery in my spine. That date was on June 7th also done by the same surgeon. He added more screws and made my rods longer for better stability. I was in the hospital for a total of 27 days. My release date was June 17th. I am now at home and I haven’t quite adjusted to be back yet. I’m still in the bed currently but I have certain weight restrictions on my to where I can’t do excessive bending, pulling or twisting because the doctors don’t want my infusion to fail again, which is understandable. I will start my physical therapy again on Monday June 23rd once again. I’m very nervous about starting this again because of how last time ended. Prayers are still greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading my story.
