Hannah’s Story

Site created on December 5, 2020

The world lost a beautiful soul on December 31, 2020. There are few in this world as kind and loving as our dear Hannah. She is a light that will shine over this community forever.

Original post 12/5/2020:Dear Ones,

Our beloved Hannah Steinweg McDonald is currently in the ICU at Saint Peters Hospital.  The number of people who are concerned for Hannah and Brady and looking for ways to help is a testament to the amazing Steinweg and McDonald families. As many of you know, she had not been feeling well for a few weeks.  Monday, November 30th, she presented to the Emergency Room feeling very ill.  Things quickly took a turn for the worse as she ended up developing a very serious condition called DIC  (disseminated intravascular coagulation) which requires intensive management.  The underlying cause is still being investigated but it is thought to likely be a form of acute lymphoma.

I know all of us want up to date information and ways to help which is why we have created this site.  We will try to update it daily during this phase of her care.  The families will have many needs in the months to come, but keeping the families safe and healthy is of utmost importance.  COVID has negatively impacted us all, and makes this all the more challenging of a situation.  We will continue to brainstorm the safest ways to help.  One safe way is to continue to send prayers and/or positive energy.  Another safe way is to consider donating platelets or blood.  We are creating a blood drive in honor of Hannah- more information to come.

Please feel free to leave comments on this site of warm thoughts, prayers or ideas to safely help the families.  You may also privately contact Kim Newell or Kelly Hackney.

Please join us in honoring Hannah's altruistic spirit by volunteering during this upcoming event:

Beginning September 19, 2021 through October 2, 2021, we will be honoring Hannah’s philanthropic spirit with the Hannah’s Days of Service event. Details as well as information on volunteer opportunities are located on the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/HannahMcDonaldDaysOfService.

The Days of Service in honor of Hannah McDonald will follow a simple formula every year:

1. Identify a volunteer opportunity: We provided some ideas, suggestions, and scheduled opportunities near Olympia, but we also encourage you to find something near and dear to you or Hannah. This is especially true for those who are not near Olympia but still want to participate.
2. Volunteer: Ideally, between Sept. 19 and Oct. 2, 2021 (dates may vary each year), complete your community service activity in Hannah's honor.
3. Submit and Share : Submit your hours at https://bit.ly/37vKTaD. This will help us gather the total number of hours volunteered in our collective community impact. Finally, share! Share what you have done with others by word of mouth or on social media so we keep Hannah's passion for service alive.

Please feel free to contact Kelly Hackney at kellyahackney@gmail.com with any questions.
