Journal entry by Ali Jones —
Hannah has been “repatriated”! It’s incredible that it’s only been 3 weeks and she was able to be transported closer to home. Being in a local hospital has facilitated more family hangouts, including a sleepover with another cousin, Gilia, and a little (approved) visit from the family cat Slinky. Hannah even got home-cooked chicken noodle soup with Parmesan cheese dropped off to her by Carolyn’s cousin Tony. She’s got a great room with big windows, a cupboard/closet, and space to put out plants and pictures.
We’re relieved seeing the care she’s getting so far. She’s being seen by a wound care nurse and orthopaedic specialists this week, and tests including an ultrasound and MRI are upcoming. A big thank you to Dr. Prodger for reviewing everything top to bottom!
The nurses here are also receiving teaching on the cervical collar. Now hopefully everyone looking after her will know the proper techniques for collar care, eg. checking the skin, making sure there’s no redness, nothing trapped inside, etc. It’s refreshing after watching Sunnybrook staff that did NOT do that.
As Hannah’s voice is returning she’s been able to do some more singing. Getting her a good wheelchair with full back support will be helpful to her practice.
Now that Hannah is stable and in a more familiar space, I will leave it up to her to post updates on her progress via this site should she so chose. I’ll finish off for now with recommending her music: two more of her original recorded songs are available to listen to on Spotify! Check out “Coffee Breath” and “Lie all the Time” by Hannah Ralph💖
A $25 donation to CaringBridge powers a site like Hannah's for two weeks. Will you make a gift to help ensure that this site stays online for them and for you?
