Hal’s Story

Site created on September 22, 2020

Hal Conklin, former Mayor of Santa Barbara, California, and friend to so many people whose lives he has touched across our nation, has gone through a difficult health experience this month. He was taken by ambulance to Cottage Hospital after a fall on the evening of Sunday, August 30, 2020.  Since so many are concerned about his health and want to be kept updated on his progress, this is a way for Hal to keep in touch with you and let you know what's on his mind to share with you.  And it's a help for Haley to have a site for updates to keep you all in the loop without retelling the same information to so many well-wishers.  They thank you for your love, concern, and especially your prayers!

Celebrating the Life of Hal Conklin
Wednesday, July 21st, 7:00pm
The Steps of the Santa Barbara Mission

You are invited to spend an evening in remembrance of Hal Conklin, whose life has left a lasting impact on so many near and far. Hal has been a part of our church for over 35 years. He has served on our Local Board of Administration, chaired the Board of Administration for the Free Methodist Church of Southern California and the Board of Administration for Free Methodist Church USA. He had many significant roles in Santa Barbara as well, including Mayor from 1993-1994 and City Council member from 1977-1993. Many considered him the "Heart of Santa Barbara", and his legacy will last for years to come.

Join us at the steps of the Mission on Wednesday, July 21, at 7 pm. Provided seating is limited, so for your own comfort please bring a blanket or lawn chair, jacket or mask, as needed.

In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Free Methodist Church of Santa Barbara with the memo “Hal Conklin Memorial.” Memories and photos of Hal can be shared with the family HERE using the access word “Conklin.” Memories and photos will be honored and preserved for the Conklin family.
