Gwen’s Story

Site created on November 15, 2020

Gwen Traylor is a follower of Christ, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a teacher. A couple of weeks ago, she was diagnosed with a serious cancer of the abdomen of unknown origin. Two masses—one near her stomach and the other a bit lower down. They don’t appear to be recurrences of her previous breast or uterine cancers. She is seeing an oncologist in Baton Rouge and we are consulting with M.D. Anderson in Houston.

She is resting comfortably at home awaiting the results of additional tests. Lord willing, the tests might suggest some treatment options. But even if they don’t, in the words of the old hymn:

I know not when my Lord may come,
               At night or noonday fair,
Nor if I walk the vale with Him,
Or meet Him in the air.

“I know Whom I have believed,
And am persuaded that He is able
To keep that which I’ve committed
               Unto Him against that day.”

For now, the freezer is stocked with gumbo, jambalaya, Irish stew, and red beans and rice. She is surrounded by her family. Her spirits are good, even though she is weak and tired. Her faithful dog Sam occupies the place of honor on the bed, right by her side. Unless the cat that torments him strolls by on the sidewalk.

We hope that you will be encouraged and comforted by these posts. Please post back; she loves to read the messages from her friends and family. And especially pray that her medical team would be skillful and insightful, that she would trust in the Lord regardless of the path ahead, and that her family would know best how to care for her physically and spiritually.

We know that this is a unusual time with Covid, and all the precautions that need to be taken.  While we would be happy to see each and every one you in person, we know that’s not possible for everyone.  The family would like to encourage participation in the service via live-stream Thursday morning at 11:00.  The link is https://trinitybaptistla.com/
