Newest Update

Journal entry by Sacha Basho

Happy Birthday to Guy!  It is a year of gratitude for our family as we have navigated a year of emotional highs and lows with Guy setting the bar for us all with his positive attitude.  We were able to celebrate both his birthday and his finishing "double" chemo treatments this week.  We celebrated early with a heart family dinner.  In Guy fashion, the dinner was spontaneously set a few days before with long term friends joining in for the festivities.  It was a delight to hear the stories from high school friends to include his legendary driving skills.  Apparently, there is a streak of the "fast and furious" that runs in my brother's blood.  It was fun to hear his friends recount the highlight reel as the statute of limitations had expired on disclosure to the family.  We shared stories, laughter, food and hugs in celebration of who Guy is in our lives.

It has been a while since we have provided an update and that is not for lack of activity.  Guy has been focused on his healing.  Along with chemo, he has been working with a cooling treatment that requires wearing electronic pads on a clean scalp.  He was approved for the treatment a few months ago and it certainly seems to be helping with his ability to sleep.  The one exception was when the pads lost their adhesion which led to electric zapping.  He certainly has been a trooper through the regular poking, zapping and questioning of this experience.  Overall, the doctor's reports have all been positive with no new cancer cell growth!! Yay!!!

On this day of celebrating Guy's birth 47 years ago, I thought it would be appropriate to share a story of Guy being my delayed Christmas gift in 1976.  Many of you know that I had been asking Santa for several years for a baby brother and over-joyed when he finally arrived.  I did not understand that a child was not an "on-demand" event.  Guy has continued to be a blessing in my life with his adventurous spirit, light-hearted nature and loyal heart.  We created many memories with light sabers, Mario Brothers, basketballs and travels.  He taught me how to glass fuse, shoot pool and duck flying objects.  I hope you will join me in celebrating Guy by sharing a memory, story or wish here.

We are looking forward to another year with Guy bringing joy, laughter and love into our lives!

God bless, Sacha
