Journal entry by Greta Webb

Tomorrow morning I have my surgeries for the IV port and the feeding tube. That is at 8:00 am. Then off to recovery. At 1:00 pm I go for my second round of radiation. Which so far hasn't been too bad but it's early yet.
Everyone here at the VA has been wonderful. I couldn't ask for better treatment. Emotionally I am doing ok I had a couple of moments today but nothing too bad. Just a lot happened.
Not waking for the alarm and being late for radiation then they didn't order the sedative so I had to go back to my room take my nighttime one which is pretty strong which is why I only take it at night. Then quickly checking out of the Stratton Inn because I was behind schedule. So after all that I made it to radiation only to start chocking on some phlegm just after they had me all strapped down. But they were great about it and got me some water. And we were able to proceed.
Then I went to surgery. Where it took 2 nurses and a vein finding machine to start an IV but they got it lol... The surgeon came in and told me about the surgery and then said I would be only sedated and awake during it. Well a little meltdown proceeded to happen. With my anxiety with hospitals and procedures there was no way I could be awake while they put a tube down my nose or they put an IV in my chest.
Just not happening. So the anesthiologist said he could do the surgery tomorrow at 8:00 am.
There's more that happened today but I don't want to bore anyone with everything. Let's just say I have had a lot of ups and downs today and that the VA has a wonderful staff here that truly goes out of their way to make sure all of your needs are being met while you are here. Whether they are medical, emotional, or if you just need someone to talk to. I can't say enough about them. They are awesome!!! 💖💖💖
