Greg’s Story

Site created on October 7, 2020

I never in a million years thought I would be writing this about my husband. Greg is healthy as an ox. Greg is strong. Greg is dependable. Greg is pushing 40 and still has 20/20 vision and never has had a cavity (annoying, right?). But on Monday October 5th right around 12 noon, Greg suffered from a ruptured brain aneurysm. He pulled through 12 hours of anesthesia and underwent about 5 procedures, including two rounds of open brain surgery. The bleed has been clipped off and he has made amazing progress towards his recovery. But his journey will be a marathon! He has a long road ahead of him. Keeping everyone up to date has been difficult. I am sorry for doing such a poor job. He has so many people who love him and want to know how he is doing. I am thankful for all of you. Thank you for the endless support, for the prayers, and for the offers of help. I hope to keep everyone up to date via this website. I've also enabled the meal train option. Once again thank you from the bottom of my heart.

We've started on our path back to "normal". Although I have heard these events change your lives forever. We are so fortunate that Greg is in the 20-30% of patients who recover from a ruptured brain aneurysm. Right now he mainly needs rest. He has a constant dull headache and pain down his back. This is to be expected as the blood breaks down and irritates all of the nerves. I've heard it can take up to 12 weeks for the pain to go away. His doctors didn't even write him a prescription for PT or OT, crazy huh? He really doesn't need it. He will follow up with his doctors in a week or two where he will get cleared to return to work, drive, etc.
His mother has been here for two weeks and has been the best help I could have asked for. She leaves today but she will come back as soon as I make the call. I not only hit the lottery with my husband but with my in-laws. His sister is here for the next week and is mainly focused on keeping the golden retriever exercised. Hard to rest when a new toy is shoved in your face every 5 minutes. Oh Lily.
