Journal entry by Greg Hebert —
Last night was an eve,
A night of remembering…
Two years ago, you were on a cusp
Of a place you were being summoned.
Not for a visit, nor return would you
A trip of a different sort
To a new home where you’d stay.
We could not go along
To care for you, nor help to
Make your journey safe.
You’d been in preparation.
I’d witnessed this watching you
The days leading towards this one.
Others, who’d gone on before you
Prepared you for this important day.
The leaving of this earth and your life
Vacating all you are here and
most importantly; your very body.
Your body no longer serving you nor
Housing your soul safely. Your
body; failing, falling, crumbling away.
‘Twas time for your soul to leave
And find a safer landing place.
Leaving for a world unknown to
all who reside on this earthly plane.
You’ve been in touch,
Letting us know you’re safe,
well and happy in your heavenly home.
This still doesn’t absolve how much
We miss you, the absence of
your presence, or the sound of your
voice, the roll of your eyes, or
Your beautiful smile.
Is it possible to wish for
Another tiny slice of time
with you? So we can witness
your reaction to the new beauty
our family has made-? Do you know
Our changes, our successes?
Of what’s been brought forth since
you’ve been gone?
Please keep holding my hand.
Still send us your
Magical messages of love.
Offer us signs you’re near,
Sit and walk alongside us here.
Wear your dress shirts in dreams
So we know it’s real and it’s you.
Please give us what you can
To keep us grounded and
Knowing you’re still here.
