Grant’s Story

Site created on May 6, 2021

As you may or may not know, Grant was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 brain cancer, Glioblastoma (GBM), back on April 16th, three days before his 35th birthday. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. To listen to some of his music, you can visit his bandcamp!     https://gitisbaggs.bandcamp.com/

Journal entry by Marguerite Mooradian

Two weeks ago, we launched a gofundme for Grant with the help of our friends Seth Bernard and Bradley Bacon. Grant is a brilliant and unique songwriter, and an astoundingly prolific creator. Paying for studio time, musicians, mixing and mastering really adds up, so we launched a fundraiser to help get some of his vast catalogue of songs recorded and into the world. We booked time at La Luna Recording & Sound in Kalamazoo for February, and have a great team of musicians playing on the album (including Jack White's bass player, Dominic!) Amazingly, we met our goal of $15,000 in TWO DAYS. All the additional funds are going to Grant living his best life, and we can press the album on vinyl, we can mix and master our band Vishaps, Bagganalia can be completed, and if he wants fancy vitamin D supplements and turkey tail mushroom tinctures, we can keep him in health to the best of our ability.

Thank you so so much to everyone who donated, shared on social media, and gave us kind words of encouragement these past two weeks. We are going to leave the fundraiser open until the end of 2021, so only a couple more days. If people want to donate, and the fundraiser is closed, I have a paypal set up for Grant using one of my emails, marguerite.mooradian@protonmail.com HOWEVER, more important than money to Grant, is that people check out his music, because that's what it's all about.

If you’d like to learn more about his music, the gofundme, and watch some amazing videos Bacon made about who Gitis is, and why people love his music, visit his website www.gitisbaggs.com. (thank you Bacon!) There you can also watch videos of him, and others, performing his songs. You can also do a deep dive into his catalogue at gitisbaggs.bandcamp.com or visit his OTHER sort-of-secret bandcamp where he writes songs as Marj Mynx marjmynx.bandcamp.com. I do a lot of the art for both of them, and myself and many other musicians sing and play on them, so if you're not familiar with his music, there you go.

And now to top off the good news with good news, Grant's most recent MRI this month shows that the tumor has shrunk! The doctors at Bronson Hospital say that this is a good sign, and shows that the treatments have been working! YEEHAW

He is going to start his last round of chemo (at least for a long while) in early January, and he sure is glad this is the last one. We're more than relieved that it looks like the temozolomide is working for many reasons, including the fact that is has been rough for our poor Gitis Baggs, with nausea and vomiting and laying down and broth times. It is heartening to hear it is not all for naught.

Thank you again to everyone for your generosity and love, and here's to 2022 being better than 2021
