Grantley’s Story

Site created on April 11, 2018

Leah and Jordan brought Grantley in on Sunday, April 8th for a rash that wasn't going away. They were told it was an allergic reaction, to take Benadryl for a few days, and head home. Leah called Monday morning because the rash had spread over his whole body. She was told to bring him in. It was found his liver and spleen we're enlarged, causing them to think it was possibly mono. Blood tests were done to confirm.  The tests came back that his blood counts were extremely low. Grantley was then admitted Monday night for more testing. Tuesday morning the additional results came back and revealed that Grantley was fighting AML leukemia. Grantley's fight will be a long one but he is a superhero and will fight just like them!

Journal entry by Jordan Johnson

We are on our last day of chemo for this round hurray! He's doing really well this round. The doctors and nurses have been on the ball with meds so Grantley has been feeling himself this whole time with really no sickness. He has started a battle of sorts with nurses to decide who his favorite is, I think he's doing so they keep bringing him treats and gifts, but they sure do love the little guy cause it's a battle daily with them to see who gets to take care of him. Tomorrow Grantley graduates from kindergarten and his teacher and classmates are coming to the hospital to celebrate. Plus all the nurses, even the ones working overnights are coming. The doctors found out that Grantley likes to do CrossFit so he's been able to go to the physical therapy room and do workouts, even setting up his own workouts to do. He's getting ready to do his make a wish wrestling match. After today we just have to wait for his counts to rebound before we can go home again and not really sure how long that will take. I apologize for not getting on here much but days just get away from haha. We appreciate everyone reaching out and helping us thank you.
