Grady’s Story

Site created on August 2, 2018

Thank you for visiting Grady’s caringbridge page. The journey started nearly two years ago with a lot of strange symptoms. Then the pain in his chest became very intense. The doctors kept checking his heart (which did need two stents) but it wasn’t the main issue. The pain was actually rib pain and it led us down the road of numerous doctor visits, ER visits, hospitalizations, etc...until we finally had a doctor that discovered it was multiple myeloma. He went through four rounds of chemo that did bring his blood numbers back down to a remission...but also gave him intense neuropathy and after four weeks of “remission” his numbers started climbing again. That leads us to the current treatment...stem cell transplant.

Tests are in. Grady is in Remission!!!  Nothing showing in the blood or bone marrow biopsy. The stem cell transplant worked.  Thats the good news. However, the rib pain is back. 😞
The doctor is baffled by that. Yet nothing has been normal with him and this myeloma  from the beginning. The doctor consulted with the group of docs she is with and they decided to just check things with a pet scan and to give him some fusions of a bone strengthening medication.  She was surprised he wasn't getting this during his chemotherapy from beginning. He also saw a new cardiologist and she wants him to see a vascular surgeon to see about the blockage in his neck. Probably won't touch it unless it gives him problems though.  So, we are very pleased with the results just need to get Grady feeling as well as the results show. 😁
