Journal entry by Katie Wray

Update - what a difference a day makes. Kate, would you post this on Caring Bridges? It's beyond my capabilities.

Anyone who has ever had a migraine, long term intense pain...can relate to how it feels when it doesn't hurt anymore. Heaven

I picked Button up today to go to the eye doctor (we think the eye will be fine based on extensive testing today - we'll see a cornea specialist Monday).

A caregiver named Laurie helped M get dressed. I had brought M's bear who sings that's what friends are for .

M played it for Laurie. Next thing I know, they're in the bathroom and, while brushing M's teeth, they're singing a duet of "that's what friends are for"! Laurie is black - M has nicknamed her Jolly.

Throughout the afternoon, Button was awake, conversant - we gossiped, told old stories. She was like someone I knew long ago...

She's only been on methadone for 24 hours but already she's already only asked for pain meds once! She doesn't hurt and it's like a new lease on life.

We're having a cheesecake party tomorrow and we're going to go out on her balcony overlooking the water and enjoy ourselves! Patrick will join me at the cheesecake party as he snuck into town tonight.

For a little bit, God is in His kingdom and all is right with the world.

Katie here:  Color me skeptical.
