Gladys Ann Haskett Smith, 69, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Mission Hospital.

A native of Jackson County, Gladys resided in Haywood County for the majority of her life.  She was the daughter of the late Joe F. and Margie Webb Haskett.  This past November, Gladys was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Dallas Smith.  She retired from Dayco after 30 years of service and later worked for Haywood County’s School System as a bus driver.  She was a faithful member of James Chapel Baptist church.  For nearly 50 years, Gladys was the church pianist, blessing the congregation with her beautiful hymns.

Gladys is survived by a daughter, Stephanie S. Parkins and her husband, Randy, of Clyde; a son, Jeffrey Smith and his wife, Wanda, of Smithfield, North Carolina; two sisters, Opal H. Moore and her husband, Bobby, of Mills River and Ruby Stephenson, of Clyde; two brothers, Reverend Joe F. Haskett, Jr.  and his wife, Margie, of Monroe, North Carolina and Jack Haskett, of Pickens, South Carolina; five grandchildren, Cameron, and his wife Cheyenne, Kelly Parkins, David Smith, Keil Smith, and his wife, Emilina and Crystal Yeaman; four great-grandchildren, Zach, Jacob, Justin, and Belle; along with several nieces and nephews. Gladys also leaves behind her pride and joy Bailey, her companion and beloved dog.   

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2019 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jeffery Moore, Reverend Mark Caldwell and Reverend Joe F. Haskett, Jr. officiating.  Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park.  Serving as pallbearers will be Chad and Scott Smith, Matthew and Mark Stephenson, Danny McElroy, and Mike Haynes. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior at the funeral home.
