Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
Hello family and friends! As you may know on December 7th I got the official diagnosis of stage 2b or 3 triple negative metastatic breast cancer. This cancer is considered upper outer of my left breast and has invaded both axillary lymph nodes on that side. Fortunately, my liver, lungs and brain are clear of metastasis right now. Today, December 21st 2020 I begin my chemo journey. The plan is to do 6 months of chemo to stop this disease before having a bilateral mastectomy/hysterectomy. After 2 months of treatment we will check progress to assure chemo is working. If not, that day we will do a radical mastectomy and come up with a new plan. Tomorrow I will have a nuclear medicine bone scan to make sure my bones are free of cancer.
This is a lot of things all at once, but I am in good spirits. I feel good. I will update throughout this journey as often as possible. I am ready to leave 2020 behind! ❤

Journal entry by Gina Adkins

Last radiation day 🙌. From this point on I will have an oncology appointment every 3 months. They will access my port (if it still works) and do bloodwork. They send a sample to Mayo that checks my cancer antigen. This number will alert on further scans although this number isn’t 100% accurate, it will elevate when something is brewing. This has been over a year of my life, and it wasn’t easy. As strange as this may seem , I’m going to feel lonely, I’ve been kept busy this past year. Appointments weekly, daily, etc. Now I just sit and reflect and it scares me. Chances of reoccurrence are fairly high with TNBC, it’s aggressive, so that constant worry makes me tired in itself.
But I can say I did it! And I’m so thankful for all of my friends, family and coworkers who have followed along with me ❤️ My heart is full.

After today’s treatment, Jacob , Tanner (jacobs friend who calls me mom too) and I are going out for lunch to celebrate. I haven’t seen them in several weeks as they have been in South Dakota working. They took a few days off to come home and be with me. It will be a perfect ending to this mess of a year! I only wish everyone could be with, but everyone is scattered throughout this big world! Happy Monday, and cheers to good health 💕
