Gerald’s Story

Site created on May 17, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. My Dad was admitted to ICU today.  He was quickly intubated an is not able to breath on his own at this time.  He has pneumonia, sepsis an fluid in lungs.  Anyone who knows my Dad knows he is stubborn an has fought really  hard to live as full life as possible.  His lungs have been bad for long time.  Like many young men he started smoking in the army when cigarettes were given freely.  He struggled to quit for many years.   Finally around 2008 he was able to.  We knew that something like this could happen but he has been strong for such a long time.  We just had his 80th Birthday on April 21st! He was the best husband to my Mom an was so devoted to her.  I have enjoyed spending many hours with them an will be praying for the best.  My Dad does not want to prolong life on a machine so if he does not turn around with antibodics an steroids in the next couple days, we will follow his wishes. Love you Dad

We brought Dad home today on palliative care. We do not know if he has 6 weeks, 6 months or more.  But he wants to spend it at home. Thank you so much for all the prayers an support! I know that is why we got him home!
