Newest Update

Journal entry by Donna George

Hi all,  I finally got energy this weekend, and my system started becoming more normalized.  Yay!  I started back at work today, and besides being tired and overwhelmed, it was great being back!  I'm feeling really good :)

Here is an update from David:

Happy November.

I have made it almost a month since surgery, and all seems to be tracking very well. I did manage to be able to return to Cheyenne late last week, and finally sleep in my own bed. However, it wasn’t the best experience overall. Sure, sleeping at home has its perks, but now I had to share the bed with PepperDog. For a 35 pound dog, she sure takes up a significant amount of blankets and mattress space. I was still experiencing fatigue, soreness, and a few side effects from the host of medications. Most of the weekend was adjusting to a back home schedule and meals. Many thanks to all family members for supporting Gina and I down in Denver throughout my initial recovery. My mah came in from Texas to stay with Marcus and Pepper to make sure one went to school, and one was able to go outside as needed. My dad, once Donna had progressed past her critical caretaker needs, came up and double teamed the Cheyenne household the last week. It turns out that Marcus showed both of them a few tricks on down home cooking. He made burgers one night for my Mah and sister Diana early on, and then floored my dad last week with Shrimp Alfredo. I should take this moment to thank my old Fort Collins days at Cables End and Jefferson Station in learning how to skillet cook, so I could then teach my son. Marcus does well.

We went back down to Denver/Porter this morning for our regularly scheduled lab and clinic appointment, but this time it was just a day trip. We left at about 5:01 am, which is EARLY. And returned home by the time Marcus got out of school. All numbers and checkups went swimmingly. I also got to drive. Wahoo!  I can feel my strength and stamina getting better each day.

I would also like to point out that this weekend was very stressful to Gina and our family. Gina’s father was taken to the ER with a heart attack on Saturday morning. He is OK now, and was discharged this morning, but it was scary for a while, wondering what the extent of the issue was. Some increased rest, and some stents to relieve the blockage. So, moving forward, both of us have some remaining rest and recovery on our plates.

What’s next?  Thursday is a milestone lab and clinic.  More tests, lots more tests, more blood draws, and a more comprehensive evaluation, marking the first full month post operation. I don’t expect anything out of sorts, but it will be good to get past this milestone. Then we go just once a week back to Porter until we get past the two month milestone. Thanks again folks for tuning in, this journey is smoothing out.
