Journal entry by Christina Broeker —
Rosalinda Garcia Chavez, age 78, of Cottage Grove, passed away peacefully on September 24th, 2021.
Rose was born in Brownsville, Texas and lived in California prior to moving to Cottage Grove, MN and enjoying the past 45 years in a community she loved.
Rose was a sweet, caring and loving woman who always put others first. She was a supportive and encouraging wife, mother and friend to all; with a special place in her heart for cats. She had an infectious smile, sense of humor and was the epitome of humble.
One of Rose’s passions was volunteering. She spent much of her life volunteering at the Friends in Need Food Shelf (St. Paul Park), St. Rita’s Church and across various music and sports activities at the schools in District 833 that her three daughters attended.
She was a devout Catholic and her Faith was demonstrated daily through her actions and love of others.
She is preceded in death by her husband, George L Chavez; father, Rosalio Garcia; mother, Carmen P Garcia.
Rose is survived by her daughters, Christina (Mike) Broeker, Yvonne (Greg) Miller, and Elizabeth Anderson; grandchildren, Erica, Joshua, Alexander, Maria, Daylia, Corina, Brooke and Evan; sister, Amelia (Mike) Zsori; brother, Martin (Janice) Garcia; cat (Lily).
Please join the family in celebrating Rose on Monday, September 27th, 4-6 pm at Highlands Park (6975 Idsen Ave S, Cottage Grove, MN 55016). We will have an ‘ice cream toast’ in her honor and remember the joy she brought to our lives.
Rose will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery later this year with her husband George.
In remembrance of Rose’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made in memory of Rose to The Friends in Need Foodshelf or the Animal Humane Society.
A $25 donation to CaringBridge powers a site like Rose's for two weeks. Will you make a gift to help ensure that this site stays online for them and for you?
