Geneva’s Story

Site created on May 19, 2019

Our dear friend, life-long Alaskan, mama, wife and hairdresser therapist/goddess/miracle-maker Geneva has learned that that her cancer has returned and she needs our help.

Geneva first noticed symptoms at Thanksgiving and doctors discovered a mass in her abdomen. They suspected it was fibroids and gave her a partial hysterectomy on Christmas Eve. Pathology came back and she was diagnosed with undifferentiated uterine sarcoma, an extremely rare and aggressive cancer. She is 46 years old.

Geneva had another surgery on January 10. At that point, there was no evidence of disease.

The second week of May, a CT scan showed that the cancer had returned and there was a large blood clot caused by a tumor that was restricting blood flow to her left kidney and hip.

There is no known cure for the cancer that she has. But, to try to extend her life and slow the growth, she begins aggressive in-patient chemotherapy on May 20. Her hope is to slow the cancer long enough that she may be able to be part of a clinical trial.

She's no longer able to work and we are raising money for living expenses to support her and her family during this time, as well as uncovered medical expenses. So many people have been touched by Geneva's wisdom, generosity, talent and love. Now is the time she needs the rich community she cultivated most.

We have some hard news.
Geneva’s cancer has advanced and she has withdrawn from the clinical trial and immunotherapy she was participating in.

She is continuing with chemotherapy in an effort to prolong her time that has statistically proven to help cancer 20-30% is terminal and doctors have told her that she can expect two good months. She will be working with Hospice care after treatment and has headed home from the hospital to be with her family.

Geneva has outlived all predictions already and we ask, first, for your prayers that she’ll outlive this one. Many people have asked what they can do to help. We want to wrap Geneva in the love of her community now. We are raising money through a new go-fund-me to help cover her family’s living expenses so Thomas can be with her completely during this time without worry. We are also re-starting a meal train. Please consider donating and signing up to bring food.
Geneva believes in specific prayers

Statistically 20-30% chance that this chemo will work
