Journal entry by Andrea Endres —
At 5:40pm, Friday December 4th, Gene Spurzem was declared brain dead. Numerous tests were completed to determine if he had any neurological improvements and it was determined through those tests that Gene's brain was no longer able to perform life's basic functions. Gene was truly an incredible man who was loved by so many. Always going above and beyond for anyone and everyone. The world will no longer be the same. Our lives were forever changed by him and he has left an everlasting impression on each and every soul he has touched. He now sings and dances with the angels up in heaven, jamming out to Johnny B. Goode, and singing "Daddy's Hands" to his dear friends Richard and Roger. He will forever walk by our sides and help guide us through our lives until we can one day meet again. We all loved him so so very much and we will greatly miss his smile, his quirky sayings and comments, and his inspirational attitude. His death is so very devastating and heartbreaking to all of us, but as Gene would say "Tucks, T, Andrea, Lynne, and Matty Boy....we got this!" "Never forget, Andrea-you're my favorite, Tucks- I'm not here for a long time, I'm here for a good time, and T- you can't win them all" and most importantly "God's always watching."
