Journal entry by Alisha Schuch

Gavin finished semester exams on Dec 21 and early the next morning, we traveled to Mayo Clinic Rochester for MRIs, blood work, and a lumbar puncture (LP). This trip was filled with more anxiety than usual since Gavin’s last visit in August showed an increase in one of his tumor markers.

Gavin’s neuro oncologist called late one evening to share that the tumor marker that elevated slightly back in August, had decreased and is ALMOST at the standard level! I don’t think I had ever seen a smile so big on Gavin’s face! Needless to say, this news was THE BEST Christmas present we could have wished for and we thank God for his continued providence.

The rest of Gavin’s results were also favorable. Both his brain and spine MRIs are clean, and his blood work is stable. He also completed his final immunization after having to redo all of them following his stem cell transplant in October 2021. Along with all of this good news, Gavin was given the option to push out his next scans and LP to six months instead of three. He was thrilled to learn that we do not have to return to Rochester until June 2024!

Thank you all for your continued prayers and words of encouragement. I hope your holiday season is filled with joy as we celebrate the birth of our Savior and enjoy time with loved ones.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
