Journal entry by Kris Hoff —
Just a quick update to let you all know that we had some post-op visits this week. So far, Gary is doing well and healing at a slow, but steady pace. His pain is completely managed now. Thanks goodness for that !! He is getting use of his right arm back but will need some PT down the road. We will have more appts over the next month or so, as well as more MRI's and bloodwork. They will watch to make sure the infection continues to leave his bones (via the 24/7 antibiotic line that he's on) and also will re-check the spine surgery area to make sure the implanted spacers are holding and the fusings have remained stable. As long as he continues to wear his neck brace while out and about, his healing should remain on track.
Both of us are still super tired. We had no idea how much 30+ days of stress, pain (for him) and exhaustion can take out of you. We are both trying our best to rest, and recoup as much as possible (while jamming in all these darn appointments)
We are grateful that he's finally NOT having setbacks, and that he is on the road to a full recovery !!
Thanks again to all you great people for the check-ins, prayers and well-wishes. We really needed all that support
