Journal entry by Grace LaPaille —
Hello friends. Many people have reached out to ask where to send a donation in honor of Gary. We had a wonderful experience with Team Gleason, the foundation founded by Steve Gleason, the former football player for the New Orleans Saints. The foundation does a lot of good for people afflicted with ALS and also was the impetus for a Summit in 2014 that I believe is what this disease needs if a cure is ever going to be a reality. The result of that Team Gleason Summit was "what is now recognized as the single largest coordinated and collaborative ALS research project in the world, Answer ALS. Nearly 2 dozen institutions, 1,000 patients, and 20 trillion data points are key to the project that will define the unknown pathways that will lead to treatments or finally a cure."
They provide assistive technology such as enhancements to power wheelchairs that are not covered by insurance and the EyeGaze computers, also not covered by insurance, so those who can no longer speak can communicate. No income qualification, no lengthy forms to fill out--they just do it when you ask. The devices literally arrived at our home. I am certain this model is successful because they know people will pay it forward. So that is what we are doing now. If you are interested in making a donation in honor of Gary, the information is below. Thank you very much; your donations will be put to good use.
Warm regards to all,
Chris LaPaille

A $30 donation to CaringBridge powers a site like Gary's site for one month. Will you make a gift to help ensure that this site stays online for them and for you?
