Gail’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Thursday night our mom, Gail Vinson, was in a horrific car wreck.  Every doctor we talk to says it is a miracle that she is even alive at this point.

Her injuries are extensive and severe.  She has a broken neck, multiple fractures on her spine, pelvis, ribs and hips.  She has a lacerated liver that was causing internal bleeding when they brought her in.  The original thought was that she had a heart attack which caused the wreck, but after doing a heart cath they discovered there was no blockage. She has a severe bruise on her heart which has caused her heart to swell.  This is causing problems with the input and output of blood flow.  The blood is not leaving the heart at the rate it needs to in order for the incoming blood to go through.  This is causing more stress to her liver which in turn is putting stress on her kidneys.  This is all a big problem because she needs surgery on her broken neck.  The surgery cannot be safely done until her internal injuries have stabilized.  Her trauma surgeon said that the only thing that can be done is giving the heart time to heal on its own.  So we are waiting.  Her surgery was scheduled for Monday, but has now been delayed because of the complications from her heart swelling. Please keep her in your prayers. We will be updating as we are able to on this site.  Thank you for your prayers.
