Gabriel’s Story

Site created on June 16, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
On June 6, 2019, Gabriel graduated 8th grade from his amazing school and we also found out he has a large tumor in his left lung. Many tests and CT scans later, we arrived at CHOP on Friday, 6/14/19, the Children’s Hospital of Philadephia where we spent 12 hours with more testing and visits to both the surgical and oncology wards. All the incredible doctors recommended a biopsy to find out what type of tumor we’re dealing with. The biopsy took place on 6/17/19.
On June 27, it was shared with us that this is a soft tissue sarcoma and chemotherapy treatments are necessary to shrink it enough to surgically remove.
Thank you for all the love and prayers.

Journal entry by Rochelle Dietz

It seems like it’s always something, but it’s not cancer and for that we are so grateful. Gabriel woke up early this morning with a sharp pain in his lower right abdomen.  I decided to take him to the ER where they did a CT scan and discovered appendicitis.  He’s been admitted to Lancaster General Hospital and his surgery is scheduled for around 2:30 today. Hopefully this will help with his stomach issues.  At this time, he’s still scheduled for a gastric emptying study at CHOP on April 26th, so we’ll see what happens after today’s surgery.

We were supposed to leave for Florida tomorrow to spend the week with family, but that’s on hold for now.  If Gabriel is feeling up to it, we might still be able to go for a few days. 🙏 That trip would be healing in so many ways.
Your prayers and loving thoughts are so much appreciated. ❤️
