Gabriel’s Story

Site created on October 24, 2018

Baby Gabriel was born 5 weeks early, on March 12, 2018. After delivery, doctors discovered a narrowing of the aortic arch in Gabriel's heart, as well as a hole in his AV canal. He was taken to Children's hospital, on March 13th, where he had his first open heart surgery on March 21. After spending nearly months in the NICU, Gabriel finally went home on July 2.

Doctors have know all along that a second surgery would be necessary to close the hole in the AV canal, but recent scans have shown that the pulmonary artery also needs to be repaired.  On Tuesday November 13, 2018, Gabriel will undergo his second surgery. Together with Loralee and Eduardo, Aunty Amber will be posting updates on the surgery and recovery process here on the Caring Bridge site. Please follow along, and keep our sweet baby G in your prayers.

It's hard to believe that only 6 days ago, Gabriel's doctor performed one of the most challenging surgeries of his 20 year career. Going into surgery, Dr. Mitchell was apprehensive- nervous at best. Coming out, he stated with relief, "That was one hell of a surgery - and I know without a doubt that God and His angels were with me the entire time- it's the only reason I am able to do what I do successfully."

Exactly 4 days ago, we received the following text from a man who attends our church: "I am currently at an African Leadership Conference, and 57 pastors and their churches have made a commitment to pray for Gabriel's healing. In addition, 11 churches have started a 4 day fast; we are believing for a miracle for Gabriel."

This evening, nearly 4 days to the minute from the time those words were shared- Gabriel was released from the hospital, and sent home to spend his first Thanksgiving with his family.

Tonight, we rejoice from the mountain top, knowing that He is over it all.

Thank you all for your prayers, support, love, and well wishes these past few days, weeks, and months.
We are believing for continued healing and strength for baby G- and praying that the Broer-Rodriguez family can finally take a deep breathe, and a giant step forward into a life free from oxygen tanks, beeping machines, and above all- fear.

Gabriel Dushan - we know God has a great and mighty plan for your life, and you are held safely in His hands.
