Journal entry by Barry Fischer —
Hello! I'd like to bring you up-to-date on how everything is going. In January I received my first "maintenance chemotherapy". It consisted of a four-hour infusion of Rituxin. All came off without any problems. I had my second treatment just two weeks ago. Once again the treatment went well and I had no side-effects afterwards except some fatigue the rest of the day following the treatment. So, I continue to be blessed.
Previously I was told that I could not get my COVID vaccination until after I finished all my chemotherapy (two years from now!). However, the doctors continue to study the situation of cancer patients like me and now the protocols have changed. I am now cleared to get my COVID vaccination soon. Studies show that for a person undergoing chemotherapy the vaccine might not be quite as effective, but it will certainly help! That will give me some peace of mind and I am sure the campus ministry team I work with will feel better knowing that I got the shots.
I am back working full time at Marian University (Indianapolis) and am quite busy. It is such a pleasure to be back after being isolated in my apartment for the better part of a year.
Thank you once again for all your love, support and prayers! Keep them coming, please!
