Andrea’s Story

Site created on September 12, 2019

Thanks for visiting my CaringBridge site! I'm grateful for everyone that wants to know what's going on, and I hope this will help you stay updated, especially for those who like more detail. You can also follow along with me via Instagram (@foulmouthedfit) if, like me, you prefer mostly visuals and not reading :)

I was diagnosed with Stage 2B, triple-negative breast cancer on August 20, 2019. I have no family history, I am a fitness instructor and was the healthiest I've ever been - but cancer fucked with the wrong person. I'll be handling this the way I try to handle everything: with resilience, grit, and a lot of probably-not-appropriate humor.

I appreciate your support - please feel free to leave comments and write a message in the guestbook. My primary Love Language is words of affirmation, and kind words are often the highlight of my day!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Andrea Ruelas

Haven't updated in a long while, but October was a great month.

I got to celebrate turning 32 by teaching a breast cancer charity ride for the Young Survival Coalition at CycleBar - and I remain blown away that every single bike was booked, and at how many of my favorite students from both CycleBar and Megaformer showed up to ride. It was a class I will NEVER forget, and I'm so grateful to each and every person who took time out of their day to ride, just to come say hi, and donated even if they couldn't be there. You can listen to the playlist on Spotify!

I traveled nearly every weekend: Disneyland with dear friends, a trip down to Lagree Fitness headquarters, and then San Diego to celebrate my grandfather-in-law's 100th birthday.

And then two days before Halloween, I finished my last round of Adriamycin and Cytoxan, which marked officially being halfway done with chemo!

There's been a lot to celebrate, and not least of which is that the chemo started working after the very first treatment; my tumor has already shrunk to half its original size.

I've started the last 4 rounds of chemo, but I'm actually struggling more with the new Taxol than I was on the previous drugs. While my appetite and energy levels are better, I've developed numbness in my hands and Restless Leg Syndrome - my legs and feet hurt, especially at night, which makes sleep elusive :(

Thank you to everyone who has checked on me, forced me to go outside, and been there in their own way - I've had some hard days and the love and support help me so much.
