Finnley’s Story

Site created on February 9, 2024

This website is to detail the victories and prayer requests in Finnley's journey to being cancer free.

If you haven't heard our sweet Finnley Klausmann was diagnosed with cancer earlier this week. She has been suffering from leg pain for over a month and despite many efforts to get to the bottom of this we ended up in the ER again refusing to leave until they did the necessary scans to get to the bottom of her pain.

The scans showed a large mass in and around Finnley's pelvis and coccyx that was impacting nerves causing the leg pain and even pushing on her bladder. This Monday it was confirmed by biopsy that this tumor was malignant. A chest port was initiated and chemotherapy has started this week.

Today we received encouraging news that via her PET scan there has been no metastasis. We have been surrounded by many in prayer and are already seeing the delivering power of our God.

Please continue to join us in prayer as we fight this with our sweet Finnley.

At the bottom of the site there is a "Support Links" where you can access a MealTrain site or GoFundMe if you desire to support the Klausmann Family in any way.  The site will be updated if there are other ways to help in the future. Come here for the most recent updates on Finnley's journey so we can limit the communication burden and fatigue that can come with being surrounded by so many loved ones wanting to support the Klausmann's.

Psalms 34:1-4
I will extol the LORD at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.  I will glory in the LORD; let the afflicted hear and rejoice.  Glorify the LORD with me; let us exalt his name together.  I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.

The Deliverance
~We have some very exciting news to share about Finnleys progress in her battle against Ewing Sarcoma! On Monday, we had our first scans (MRI and CT) since her initial diagnosis in early February.  As we have learned and now experienced, waiting on the results is HARD. There is a coined word for it called "scanxiety" which I know is a very real thing for some. Thankfully, we have put our trust and worries in our Fathers hands and we are doing our very best to not allow our lives to be dictated by the outcomes of scans or test results.

~We received a call from our oncology team on Tuesday afternoon. "Cory, we have some great news to share regarding Finnley! We are still reviewing everything BUT, the 9cm x 6cm x 5.5cm (size of a large apple) tumor that was sitting in her pelvis area is completely gone."

~Wait, what?! Its gone? YES, its gone!  6cycles of chemo into a 14 cycle treatment plan with no localized radiation treatment thus far and the large tumor has been healed!!

~The results still show some cancer cell activity in the bone (the origin location of this tumor) which will need to be dealt with, more on that later. But can we just take a second to breath this in and praise God for this miracle!!! Ugh, it is hard to find the words to describe how incredibly grateful we are for this deliverance!!

The Due Diligence
~In the original scans, the doctors noted that Finn had a few small (sub 2mm) nodules in her lungs. They were so small that the PET scan did not detect any cancerous activity. It is not uncommon to have markings like this in a CT scan of your lungs. These can come from any number of issues, from allergies, infections, medications the list goes on. There are protocols in place for the current standard of care with this disease that considers anything less than 5mm to be "insignificant or indeterminate". Well, the most recent CT showed that the nodules are completely gone.  On the surface, one would think this is great news, her lungs are clear. The question now is whether these "Insignificant" nodules were in fact, distant metastatic spread of the cancer in her pelvis (This changes staging and further increases the statistical risk of recurrence down the road).  At this point, we will never fully know for sure. This doesn't change anything regarding her current treatment protocol (which will continue through the full 14 cycle schedule and include 30-33 proton therapy appointments at the tumors original location). We will need to decide whether to have radiation done to her lungs after her chemo is complete in August. There are some long term concerns/risks that we will need to weigh, but that is a conversation for another day.

The Natural Approach
Our current protocol for supplements is listed below -

We are encouraged and grateful for the outpouring of support and kindness from our family and friends and this amazing community in Cumming, Georgia! Tomorrow the local Ice Cream Social is throwing a fundraiser for Finnley! Other local businesses around the area are pitching in with raffle baskets and donations. WestSide Beverage is sponsoring the event and providing free single scoop servings from 6pm-10pm. We are looking forward to being with any and all who can make it!

But God!
