Mallory’s Story

Site created on October 25, 2018

Many life changes have been occurring for Mallory in this new season of life. She took a leap of faith and moved to Nashville this summer to begin a new teaching job. She is being stretched to get out of her comfort zone as she lives in a new city, meet new people, find a new church, and gain new friends. Little did she know that another change was on her path in this new season and story of her life.

In early September, Mallory had “an annoying feeling” and felt a lump while showering. Little time passed after her self-examination that she scheduled a doctor’s visit. From there she was sent for a mammogram. When the initial mammogram showed something concerning, Mallory proceeded to another mammogram and eventual biopsy.

It was on Thursday, Oct. 11th that she was told she had cancer. Many questions were being asked and there were many “unknowns” at this point. She, and her parents, wouldn’t know more details until her doctor’s visit on Monday, Oct. 15th when they would meet with the surgeon. That is when she found out that it was most likely (later to be confirmed) Stage 3 breast cancer. Since then she has had multiple tests, MRI, CT scan, etc. to create the best plan possible to battle and beat this cancer.

Though Mallory’s story is looking quite different from what she imagined when moving, she, along with many family & friends, know that this is just part of a grander story being told by God. This is her story, but it is truly God’s battle.

She and her family appreciate the love & concern you have for her! There will be updates on our beloved Mallory’s treatments and journey here. Please feel free to share with others! “Fight with Mallory” by giving your support, kind words, and prayers!

Do not be afraid or discouraged…for the battle is not yours, but God’s. - 2 Chronicles 20:15

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.- Joshua 1:9

Newest Update

Journal entry by Marisa Reid

Mallory will be going to the plastic surgeon on Tuesday, Sept. 13th for a follow-up. As mentioned in the previous update, Mallory had an abdominal incision that began to open. It is still opened. She went to the surgeon 5 weeks ago, and though the surgeon was disappointed the incision was opened, he was pleased that it appeared to be healing.

Mallory continues to dress the wound and pack it twice a day. The opening is about 12 cm long and 3 cm wide. Mallory noted that the depth inside has improved. She had been previously been told it would take about 6 weeks to close up and heal; however, it is about to be 6 weeks. Continue to pray for the complete healing of this wound and that this incision, and another small one that has opened, will close and quickly heal.

Mallory also started physical therapy about 3 weeks ago due to continued back issues she has had this past year. The sessions are going well!

On another note, Mallory started back at school teaching. She is also coaching middle school volleyball. We know her students and players are blessed to have her as a teacher & coach!
