Journal entry by Madeline Cote-Silvestris —
Hi Everyone ~
About a week ago, Ernie learned that he has several serious blockages in the arteries feeding his heart.
Since he is not a candidate for angioplasty or stents, he is now scheduled for bypass surgery (Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting) to be performed at Massachusetts General Hospital on Friday April 13th.
He's been at MGH for several days now and while awaiting his surgery, he's been keeping the staff entertained with various antics (not surprisingly). At one point, he actually feigned a seizure when the unsuspecting nurse inserted an IV. The poor nurse ... typical Ernie!
He is in good spirits and getting lots of support and love from his many friends and family members.
It's anticipated that the surgery will commence late this afternoon and will take approximately 4 hours to complete. We've been assured that we'll receive updates from the OR as the surgery progresses and we'll do best to promptly relay that information via CaringBridge.
Thank you to everyone for well-wishes, loving thoughts and prayers. Ernie feels the love and he looks forward to getting this surgery behind him.
