Journal entry by Liwanag Ojala —
Hello,
It's a bittersweet one and the first since my Dad died almost 9 months ago.
There are many reminders of him these days. NHL playoffs and watching Fleury reminds me of the time we took my Dad to see my nephew's hockey tournament in Vegas. I made steamed sea bass the other day with salted black beans, and we would have enjoyed it together. I saw something in the paper about the electoral college and he certainly would have a perspective on it. I see people pushing others in wheelchairs, I'm watching Ana's softball game and I'm holding the umbrella without him next to me, we're discussing Osaka's decision at Roland Garros, I'm getting planters because the indoor plants have outgrown the ones they are in now, the kids got their report cards, etc. Some days the reminders are constant.
We had him with us for a long time - nearly 23 years longer than we had my Mom. For those missing their fathers today, I understand. When someone is loved, there is never enough time.
For those who are fathers, a happy father's day to you, and especially to my hubs Eric, who has given our kids the gift of a great father.
Peace,
Liwanag
