Journal entry by Amy Vogt —
Great news - the pathology shows no residual signs of cancer, just as doctors had suspected. In addition, the lymph nodes are negative. The pathology confirmed a complete response. My surgical team (surgeon and plastic surgeon) are ecstatic! This result is the "best case scenario!" What a great Thanksgiving, b-day, Christmas gift! I will be on a road to physical recovery, but I am cancer free!
I had 2 post op appointments yesterday to check on my progress. All looks good so far. I am healing well but the drain will remain in for about another week as a precaution. My overall pain level is manageable. Way better than just after surgery, but enough to be uncomfortable. This may be the norm for awhile.
For the next few years I will be closely monitored by my primary oncologist. I also have a follow up discussion soon with the radiation oncologist, however the pathology results should mean there will be no radiation.
I have much to be thankful for this season, including family and friends. Thank you all for your continued support!
