Journal entry by Lisa Melby —
I thought it might be time for a quick update, and here's the really good news: there's not a lot to report on Emma. Except maybe the fun she's been having (Hawaii, MN Outdoor Adventure Foundation benefit, stage manager for Happy Days the musical, Olivia Rodrigo concert...). We are truly on the tail-end of Emma's 30 month cancer journey. For the most part, she is back to normal in terms of schedule. Physically she is working to gain back strength, balance, and energy. We already have some fun activities planned for her over the summer months, like Trollwood Academy, a quick trip to Florida, lake time, and possibly driver's ed classes. 😳
As for me, I have my 7th infusion tomorrow, then 16 to go. My hair started falling out as soon as we returned from Hawaii, so needless to say, it’s gone. A bit of a bummer.
I have been feeling really good, for the most part. I'm realizing that I have the most energy on Tuesdays and am exhausted by the end of the week. I have been trying to work as much as I can, which amounts to 2-3 days a week. In April, Adam and I will meet with a surgeon in Sioux Falls to discuss my options once I'm done with chemo. It sounds like I may have to do radiation as well and we meet with the radiologist soon, too.
And that's it, in a nutshell. We are enormously grateful for my coworkers who have been feeding us, family and friends who reach out, my mom, sister, and Anna for sitting through my infusions (and watch me sleep), my fellow Warrior Moms and new FM Breast Group friends for all the tips, tricks, advice, and well wishes.
Once I know more about my surgery and Emma's RING THE BELL date, you'll be hearing from us!
