Emily’s Story

Site created on April 17, 2023

Sunday, April 16, 2023 at dinner in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, Emily experienced a subarachnoid hemorrhage due to an aneurysm, meaning a vessel in her brain started bleeding. She got great care, as a hospital was two streets away, and then after calls to four hospitals, she was LifeFlighted to Portland.

The team at the hospital. Apparently, these are relatively common. In fact, for some reason, they have quite a few people with this have been admitted in the last day or two.

They expect people with subarachnoid hemorrhages to be in the hospital for a couple weeks.

The nurse again reminded me she's in really good hands. And said Emily got care faster than most - which is great.

We’ll keep you updated here. And your thoughts and prayers would be very, very welcomed.

Journal entry by Emily Pitman

Today was Angio Day! We headed to the hospital by 7:30. Got checked in by 8:30. Had a wonderful nurse care team and procedure care team. I was only mildly sedated and sleepily awake during the whole thing. It went fast and easy. Dr. Turk came into my recovery room less than an hour after the procedure and told us the coil put in last year looks great and so does the rest of my brain!  I don’t need to see them for three years and that will “only” be for an mri.

I’m taking two full days to rest. And to be happy and relieved.

Dr. Turk came to my recovery room less than an hour after the procedure and gave us an All Clear
