Emily’s Story

Site created on February 11, 2023

On February 9th Emily was struck by a car and badly injured. She died as a result of these injuries on February 17th, but in her death gave the gift of life through organ donation. Originally used to provide updates on her medical condition, we aim to maintain this website as a place to allow everyone to share memories of Emily and express their love for such a phenomenal sister, daughter, friend, colleague, and pet Mom.

Journal entry by Beth Hoffman

Yesterday we unveiled the Emily and Sheldon Hoffman catio room at Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh. With the donation made in Emily and Sheldon’s name, we were able to get a cat door put into the main door so that cats in the catio colony room can access the outdoor catio space. With future donations we will be able to spruce up the outdoor space so that cats can use the outdoor space without getting wet and without being afraid of passing dogs and people. Our goal is that the cats can see the birds and outside (while inside) just like Sheldon. We also hope that this will help shyer cats (like many of ours over the years) get adopted.

We can think of no better way to honor Emily’s love of animals and her love of Sheldon. Thank you to everyone who came to the dedication and to those who have so generously supported this project in so many ways.
