Dear Stephanie, the sharing of this journey has been such a gift to all of us. Your generosity, candor, and spirit are a wonder to behold. Emile truly had a perfect soulmate, and I couldn't imagine a better fit than the two of you. He will always be here in our hearts, in our minds, wherever we see beauty and strength and kindness. Your words will stay with me for all my days. Thank you for your grace and love for our wonderful, sweet friend Emile.

Your image of Emile floating on a sea of love, drifting toward the horizon and now over it, gives us some bittersweet joy that we are drops in that sea. A great human being, Emile will not be forgotten by those who knew and loved him.

Dear Stephanie, the image of the raft drifting further and further away has stayed with me the past days as I thought of you, Clara and Atty. And Emile. I am so very sorry for your loss. I have been carrying you all around in my heart and prayers these last days. Thank you for sharing this journey with us here...so, well, exquisitely. Vivid images, metaphors, meaningful realisations. You are a powerful writer, and given the extraordinary lives you and Emile and the kids have already lived and clearly know how to live--ones of authenticity, compassion, creativity--I know great beauty awaits you, too. As Emile wrote, he is not "out there" -- he is in our heads. Given the number of people Emile has touched, that's no small movement of joy, authenticity and presence ... Sending all my love.

Hi Stephanie. My wife and I were both students of Emile more than 20 years ago, when he was just starting his career in education. At the time he seemed so wise and cool and unlike any other teacher I’d ever had. And though we only knew him for a few short years, he left an indelible impression on us and helped to foster a love for science and discovery that I’ve carried on with my own children today. One of my favorite stories he told us was about how he once left a rugby game with another players tooth stuck in his arm. His mom forbade him from playing again but he couldn’t help it. He was such a kind and giving person. Our thoughts and love are with you and your family. We will always carry him in our hearts.

Hi Stephanie, I had the honor and pleasure of producing an educational video at Thomas Jefferson University on the topic of unconscious bias. Through this video, he not only lives on but will continue to touch the lives of many through his education. I was privileged to get to know him through our work and through the journey that you both described on this site. Emile, you and your children are inspirational.

I haven't had the pleasure of meeting you Stephanie, but I want to join so many here in expressing my admiration of you and gratitude for the powerful way you've shared this journey with us. The authentic and caring nature of Emile is clearly your nature too, and I can only imagine the powerful love your beautiful children are also bringing into our world. Emile will be missed and remembered by so many, and hopefully his life and work will inspire us all to be more peaceful and loving.

I can fully imagine Clara and Atty continuing to grow in the meaningful life you and Emile have created, and being forces for good in the world, as you and Emile have been. Dear Stephanie, I received this message from a friend this morning and I want to share it with you. Your writing throughout this journey has been moving and inspiring and you may not know what a gift you are to so many. Blessings to you and your beautiful family from Greg and I. "Hi Donna, I didn't know Emile personally but I know you are friends of Bill and Betsy's. I was reading Stephanie's journal entry yesterday and the visual of Emile passing was simply beautiful. It helped me visualize my own son's passing. Can you thank her for me? I meditated on that yesterday, it was one of the greatest blessings I've ever received ❤️❤️We lost our son 5 years after his recovery from drug addiction only to be in a freak car accident. We had to make the decision to remove life support. I've been struggling with this and what Stephanie wrote seemed to free me from the overwhelming guilt. I brought him in and took him out was what I have been fighting with myself about. I feel like a giant weight has been lifted off of me and he is finally free as well."
