Emery’s Story

Site created on April 4, 2019

This is where I will keep all friends and family updated on how Emery is doing and what the next steps are. If you're new to the site, remember to click on "Read "More Journal Entries" to start at the beginning! We also have a GoFundMe site set up on the "Ways to Help" tab. The " Make a Tribute in Honor of Emery" is making a donation directly to the website, it doesn't have anything to do with us.

Journal entry by Sophie Hochstatter

Sweet baby E had her pre-op appointment on Monday. We learned a little bit more about what the day of her surgery will look like. Basically, it’s a lot of rest and frequent check-ins from the nurses. They have a 1:1 patient to nurse ratio there. She will be in the PICU for the first night, and if everything goes well we should move to the recovery room for another few nights. We won’t know the exact time of the surgery until 48 hours before, but are still expecting it to be the morning of August 23. It will take about a week for her to feel more like herself, two weeks to be fully recovered, and about 3 months for her skull to be a “normal” shape. They have taken care of the mold problem and feel 100% comfortable having patients at the hospital. If anybody has any experience and advice about staying a few nights in a hospital far from home with a baby, let me know! Not sure what to do food-wise. We have a mini-fridge in the room. Also, if anybody has some 9 month girl clothes or pajamas that snap and don’t have to go over her head, I could definitely use some.
