Emerson’s Story

Site created on February 12, 2024

On Tuesday, February 6th Emerson was at home, as she had just started battling what seemed like a respiratory infection. While her parents were at work; her grandparents were just about to take her in to get checked out when suddenly Emerson took a turn for the worse. She had a drastic change in her breathing and color, and looked like she was struggling. Her grandparents jumped into action dialing 911 and began CPR as soon as Emerson became pulseless. Emerson was flown by Medlink to Gundersen in La Crosse where she is currently in stable condition in the pediatric ICU. She is intubated and on ventilator for respiratory support, although she is starting to show her spunky self coming through. She has already undergone several tests, CT scans, an MRI, cardio echo and EEG’s.

Although the Small family doesn’t have any definite answers yet, we all know how much of a fighter Emerson is, and she’s already showing us such positive signs! Kristen and Tyler have been by her side advocating for the best care possible during this difficult time.

Emerson has a long road to recovery ahead of her, with so many unknowns at this time. Her length of hospital stay is still to be determined based on how the next few days go. Even after her hospital stay, she will have a long recovery at home. Kristen and Ty are taking extended days off of work to be by Emerson’s side.

At this time all we can do is pray for Emerson’s continued recovery. No parents should ever have to endure what they are going through; yet they struggle with asking for help from others. We are asking kindly for any financial donations, so that her parents can focus on her healing.
